Toledo heart doctor first in Ohio to implant alert system in patientTHE BLADE STAFFDr. Ameer Kabour shows John Ward, 63, of Toledo, a sample of the First Angel/Med Guardian cardiac monitor that he is going to implant in his chest Monday. A Toledo man was to become one of the first Ohioan to have an experimental heart monitor and alert system implanted in his chest Monday at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.John Ward, 63, met with the news media shortly before the procedure, in which Dr. Ameer Kabour, chief of cardiology, would implant an AngelMed Guardian cardiac monitor. Mr. Ward said he hopes the device will relieve his constant worries about his heart.“I want to get it done. That way I don’t have to worry every time I have a chest pain running to the hospital and they say nothing is wrong,” he said. “This way the monitor will tell me something’s wrong. Get to the hospital or call your doctor.”Mr. Ward had a heart attack about two months ago and had a stent implanted last month.Dr. Kabour said the device will monitor Mr. Ward’s heart much like an external EKG and alert him to early symptoms that he is having a heart attack.
