After the procedure, patients are generally maintained on blood thinners for a transitional period while heart tissue grows over the device, a process called endothelialization (natural tissue coverage of an implant). Follow-up imaging is scheduled to confirm that the device has sealed correctly. Once coverage is confirmed, eligible patients may be able to reduce or stop blood thinners under their cardiologist's guidance.
